ARTSTARS MEDIA LLC MERGES A+C NORTH TEXAS AND SISTER PUBLICATION A+C HOUSTON TO LAUNCH THE NEW STATEWIDE MAGAZINE, ARTS+CULTURE TEXAS.
Dallas, TX – ArtStars Media LLC, parent company of Arts+Culture North Texas and sister publicationArts+Culture Houston, today announces the merger of the two publications into a new statewide monthly periodical, Arts+Culture Texas. September is the inaugural issue and will publish August 31, 2013.
Nancy Wozny and Devon Britt-Darby will serves as editors of the new publication. The duo currently oversees Arts+Culture Houston.
Wozny has been editor-in-chief at Arts+Culture Houston for the past two years, seeing this new publication through its beginnings to where it is now as a trusted and vibrant arts news source. She is a contributing editor for Dance Magazine and Reviews Editor for Dance Source Houston. Nationally, she is a frequent contributor to Pointe, Dance Magazine and Dance Teacher at Dance USA’s The Green Room, in addition to Culturemap, The Houston Chronicle and other publications. She was a 2005 NEA Fellow of the Institute for Dance Criticism. She has served as a scholar in residence at Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival since 2010.
Britt-Darby has been visual arts editor at Arts+Culture Houston since June 2012. Prior, he spent four years as art critic and writer at the Houston Chronicle. He is also an artist; having gained national coverage for his collaboration with Reese Darby titled The Art Gay Marries a Woman. Britt-Darby recently completed a residency at Art League Houston.
“The success of our North Texas and Houston publications brought requests from other arts communities in the state to include them. Deciding to go to one statewide publication seems like the natural step, and one that seems to excite everyone we talk to — from advertisers to readers to civic leaders,” said publisher Ken Villalovos, who co-founded ArtsStars Media, LLC along with colleague Scot C. Hart, who has served as editor-in-chief of Arts+Culture North Texas through the current 2013 Summer Issue. Hart will remain as an advisor to the new publication.
Arts+Culture Magazine is a free periodical supported by advertisers and patrons. The magazine features articles, interviews and reviews on gallery and museum shows, theater productions, arts newsmakers, classical music, contemporary dance, opera, design, and books relating to the arts. It is published ten times a year, with issues July+August and December+January combined, and distributed to galleries, museums, performance spaces, designated newsstands, and other key businesses throughout the state.
